Rules of the competition

  1. Times for ranking must be achieved during an official race or must be independently recorded during a club time trial. New members will be ranked according to past experience

  2. Promotion to a higher division can only be attained if the runner achieves the qualifying standard for that division during the course of the season.

  3. Relegation to a lower division will only occur if a runner fails to maintain the qualifying standard for the division in which he or she is competing during the course of the season. The Road Captain may take in account any long-term injuries sustained by runners during the season and has the authority to re-grade runners for the following season on this basis.
All promotion and relegation will take place at the end of the year – no promotions will occur during the year.

  4. Qualifying standards can be reviewed at the end of each season if the Road Captain feels it is necessary.

  5. Scoring for PREMIERSHIP AND CHAMPIONSHIP runners is based on BEST 8 races from 12. Runners must complete at least 8 races to qualify for prizes.
Scoring for MALE 1st Division runners is based on BEST 6 races from 12. Runners must complete at least 6 races to qualify.
Scoring for FEMALE 1st Division runners is based on BEST 4 races from 12. Runners must complete at least 4 races to qualify.
  6. Bonus Points can earned as follows during 2010:-

1 bonus point will be awarded to any runners who exceed the minimum number of races required for prize qualification. 1 additional bonus will be awarded to any runners completing all 12 races.
Effectively there are 5 bonus points at stake in the Premiership and Championship competitions and 7 bonus points in the Men’s 1st Division and 9 bonus points in the Ladies 1st Division.
Due to the number of runners planning to enter a Marathon this year additional bonus points will be available to runners completing the marathon in the following times:-

    Points
    Male
    Female
    5 points sub 3hr sub 3hr 15 mins
    4 points sub 3hr 20 mins sub 3hr 30 mins
    3 points sub 3hr 40 mins sub 3hr 45 mins
    2 points sub 4hrs sub 4hrs
1 point All other times All other times

It is felt that the training required to complete a marathon in these times and the fact that the marathon training schedule may prevent participation in certain club races, warrants the award of bonus points on this scale.

  7. Perpetual shields given to Premiership and Vets winners only – winners must return each shield at the end of November.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the Premiership, Championship and Division 1 will receive individual trophies for keeps.

1st 3 vets in the men’s and ladies championships will receive trophies irrespective of which division they compete in and if they also qualify for a divisional prize.

In the event of a draw, additional trophies will be presented.
